For more than thirty years Umbria has been giving hospitality to Umbria Jazz, the event which has stood out from the rest, thanks to the calibre of its artists and the huge turnout of audience which every year crowds the streets of Perugia and the stages of the whole region in order to participate to an unique event in its genre.
In the last years the festivals devoted to the music have really increased following the tracks of Umbria jazz which is considered as great forefather of every musical event of that sort, without being able to tarnish its prestige and popularity. For this success, we have to give credit to the artists, to the love of the audience and to the setting where it takes place, is that a region and a city where a single musical note resounds in all its purity and all its magic. In July in Perugia there is a concentration of talented artists which doesn’t have any comparisons into the world presenting every year a programme full of dates which really contain the best for its passionate lovers. Perugia is transformed in a huge open-air theatre, where the music can be heard in every corner, unabated notes waft for the city, night and day, in a flurry of emotions that has never end.
Besides to sacred monsters of jazz, alternative concerts, those of lesser known artists, but also amateurish musicians or improvised bands make it big in the city ready to trigger a jam session in every circumstance as in the best tradition of jazz beginners.
It is a ritual which is renewed every year either by the settled presence of audience’s favourite artists or by the enthusiasm of who occurs to the event for the first time just for the taste to be there and to participate in that freezing and poetical atmosphere.
The saga of Umbria Jazz, along its history, has hosted the best of international artist outlook, approaching sublime artists toward great audience, whose name is clearly registered in the record of world-wide music history.
The first editions of the festival immediately prevailed over the attention of the fans creating an immediate bond with the city and its more typical places as historical premises, clubs, small theatres, roads and public squares and every other occupied by music space.
To come back to Perugia for enjoying Umbria jazz means to participate to a collective ritual which celebrates the love for jazz together with the great masters who have made the event really important.
