The charm
of a secret and sparkling city... Perugia during winter

Summer is the season during which Perugia explodes in all its possibilities. The initiatives multiply and come after each other without stopping. Every night the old city centre is filled with a festive crowd looking for fun. The premises open their terraces in front of enchanting night landscapes inviting to sip drinks and tasting appetizers outdoors.
No one misses  the enchantment of summer and the tourists that every year pour into the streets of Perugia to visit the places that have made it famous, benefit from one of the most satisfying vision.
This is the period when the city show its best side to visitors, when monuments shine a very particular light.  The centre of Perugia exposes its symbols, invaded by people who take pictures to immortalize their beauty.
The Fontana Maggiore is one of the most desirable and sought-after destination, it is a medieval masterpiece realized by Nicola and Giovanni Pisano, about the year 1275 and 1278. In addition to being simply wonderful from an aesthetic point of view, this is a key monument in the history of Italian art. It is an important step in overcoming the Romanesque style greatly contributing to the modernization of figurative language.
Other town monuments revolve around this wonderful and symbolic old city centre, such as The St.Lorenzo Cathedral, Dei Priori Palace, corso Vannucci, via Maestà delle Volte. From these monuments, narrow streets and alleys branch, describing circles which get more and more wide, and lead to the old access points of the city which are the walls and the door. The most famous of the seven Perugian gates, is the Etruscan Arc, which is a massive monument built in the third century B.C..
Away from the historic centre of Perugia, we will inevitably end up by stumbling on  one of the villages where, during the summer, feasts and festivals help to create an atmosphere of fun and great sympathy. The rite of Sagra village is very appreciated and prepared very carefully in the countryside and Perugian villages. Each year the delicatessen combined with artistic beauty and scenic places determine the success of events that offer delicious and typical products at limited prices.
Summer is also the time for music, the moment when Perugia suddenly comes alive to host an event which has recently contributed more than anything else to diffuse its name in the world.
Summer is, the season of Umbria Jazz, before than anything else .
The whole year is nothing but the expectation of an event which upset the standards of normality, rushing the city into a whirlwind of notes, music and colours.
In July Perugia becomes a huge yard musical, instruments move from a concert to another and notes reverberate from one stage to another. Local and cosmopolitan  public are mixed with international artists for an endless success that increasingly consolidates its primacy every year.
There is no better symbol of Umbria Jazz in the world to represent a city like Perugia, its cosmopolitanism, its desire for fun and the ability to experience more and more new solutions.
In the early seventies, Umbria Jazz seemed a destined to fail challenge, both for its out of proportion dimension and for the delicate cultural and historic climate of the country during that time. The city held out against first difficulties thanks to its energy and confidence to make a success that has few comparisons to the world in terms of quality and quantity. Many artists have been contributing for more than three decades to its enormous celebrity.
