Spring of Perugia is announced with an explosion of tones that only l'Umbria can offer. The hills of Perugia and its surroundings turn coloured, woods green again and meadows are dotted with flowers.
The nature of green Umbria and Perugia with her start flourishing.
There are many ways to appreciate the beauty that only spring season can emphasize. One of these is the visit to the Bosco Didattico(Educational wood) of Ponte Felcino, which is a very interesting either from the naturalistic or environmental point of view and well equipped to improve the value of the many botanical varieties on the planet.
It is an area of approximately 6 hectares where more than 2.000 specimen can be admired. They represent more than 100 different botanical families which are divided into two large greenhouses, one of which reserved for tropical plants. The path is completed with an aquatic garden, a planiziale forest, an orchard made entirely by species of ancient cultivation which now are almost dying out. Eventually there is a rose-garden made up of approximately 600 different varieties.
As soon as the days become milder, the urge to run outdoors take the upper hand and athletes and sportsman of all kinds but also all those who intend to simply walk outdoors, start doing sport.
The most popular among the green areas of Perugia is certainly that of Pian di Massiano, a green expanse of more than 70 hectares, which is equipped for any type of outdoor activities. The green and the plants are covered by long pedestrian and cycling routes, surrounded by sports facilities in which you can practise football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball, archery and much more. Many benches placed along the trails offer a cool refreshment, as well as kiosks where you can buy soft drinks.
